History

Renault & the Nurburgring have a long lasting relationship, Renault make some of the best front wheel drive chassis’s & are always keen to demonstrate that.

Previously the Mk3 Megane Trophy R set the front wheel drive production car record & previous to that the Megane R26R set the front wheel drive production car record.
This, the Mk4 Megane Trophy R then followed.

For this ultra rare Trophy R model, Renault went on a weight saving programme, the rear seats have been stripped out (-25.3kg); a lightweight Akrapovic titanium exhaust has been fitted (-7kg); there’s a new carbon-composite bonnet & carbonfibre rear diffuser (-8kg & -2.3kg); thinner rear glass has been installed (-1kg); and there’s now no rear wiper either (-3kg), lightweight wheels (-8kg). (Optional carbon fibre wheels are another 16kg lighter again).

Renault also removed the 4Control four-wheel steering & this change alone was a loss of 32kg being removed.
In total the Trophy-R’s total weight is over 130kg against the regular Trophy.
Even the infotainment system was changed from the 8.7in portrait-oriented R-Link touchscreen to a smaller 7in unit which shaves a further 250g off the kerb weight.

All this, plus of course the addition of various upgrades & changes meant for a truly blistering lap time of just 7mins 40secs at the Nurburgring!

Body & Paintwork

Striking is likely the best way to describe the Trophy R, serious road presence!

Showing hints of the previous model – the Mk3 Trophy R & the even earlier model, the R26R, the Trophy R looks fantastic with the red highlights/decals, wheels & brake calipers.
All of which are of course in original finish & superb condition.

All paintwork measures totally original, all lights & glass are like new & all badges are original & correct.
Wheels are unmarked & the original tyres are still fitted, this car has not been to a track, with these cars being so superb on track it is hard to find one that has not been used on track.

The optional carbon fibre wheels are in unmarked & unused condition, still in the correct original RS bags. They are beautiful.

A truly stunning example of a truly stunning car.

Interior & Trim

The interior of the Trophy really is very special.

As soon as you get in, you know its something rather special.
The car is totally as it left the factory, everything is in beautiful condition, showing no signs of wear.

The seats are stunning & a superb design, being very comfortable whilst holding you in place really well.
Not only that, but condition wise they are without any faults & that is the same for the steering wheel as well, gear knob & all areas.

The infotainment screen & clutch pedal still have the protective films in place.

The rear seats are replaced with a cradle for carrying the optional carbon fibre wheels, very well designed & secured.
The optional RS branded 6 point harnesses are in unused condition still in the original boxes.

Everything works just as it should do & the experience of the interior really does shout that it is something very special.

Engine

As can be seen from the pictures, the engine bay presents beautifully, still looking very fresh & proudly displaying factory markings.

Obviously the car starts & runs fantastically, with no delay in cold starting, no smoke, either on idle, on boost or on overrun.
The car accelerates well through the revs range without any hesitations & of course has no unwanted noises.

The car has just had a service carried out by Renault so it is ready to be enjoyed with no expense looming.

The engine itself feels superb on the road, 296bhp and 295lb ft of torque. Whilst these numbers might not be ground breaking, but given the R weighs only 1,306kg, it feels like it has much more power, it is a truly impressive car.

A truly fantastic car to drive.

Running Gear

The underside of this Trophy R really needs to be seen to be appreciated.
A car which is unrestored, just very well preserved thanks to dry weather usage only.

The car drives very well indeed, just as you would expect.
