History
The legendary & very iconic Honda CBX 1000.
Honda set out with one main goal, that was to build the fastest production motorcycle at the time.
Inspired by the six cylinder GP bikes of the 60’s, Honda developed the CBX with six cylinders, double overhead camshafts, 24 valves & over 100bhp.
These credentials, along with a noise which only a six cylinder can make, all helped the CBX grab headlines worldwide upon its launch in 1978, as well as the fact it was the fastest & most powerful production bike at the time of course. It can be argued, that no other bikes has left such a mark since.
This example was supplied new by George Dye in California, the bike was spec’d to have the ‘GP kit’ fitted from new.
The bike was then transported to Las Vegas to live with the buyer, being part of an indoor collection of various motorcycles (mainly Ducati’s). The CBX remained in brand new, unused condition within this collection for 31 years!
The history is astonishing for an unused bike, with every piece of history present, right from first order to today.
Body & Paintwork
Of course this CBX is still sporting original paintwork throughout, which still looks sensational.
Gloss levels & clarity are fantastic, the paintwork which can often loose its ‘pop’ looks superb, it is very clear this bike has been cherished its entire life.
Again the wheels are in original finish & still look great, the seat, footrest hangers, switch gears, levers – all in excellent condition.
This bike has been the start of many conversation’s within our showroom when guests have visited, as they simply cannot believe the condition of an original 1979 bike.
Even the brake lines are still showing untarnished zinc plating on the ends.
A truly beautiful example, of a very special bike.
Interior & Trim
All trims are in superb condition.
Engine
The famous Honda 1047cc six cylinder.
Inspired & engineered thanks to Honda’s six cylinder GP bikes of the 60’s, both a four cylinder & six cylinder were developed & tested for the CBX project, with Honda deciding to opt for the six cylinder for a multitude of reasons.
Double overhead cam, 24 valve, 6 cylinder sports bike was absolutely out of this world, and even today it is the cause of many conversations when people realise it is six cylinders.
These make a glorious sound, and performance is great even today.
Taking the crown for fastest & most powerful bike at time of release, the CBX 1000 will always been an icon of the era.
This example is in decommissioned condition as you would fully expect.
Everything presents very very well, demonstrating excellent storage conditions over the years.
Running Gear
All running gear is in superb order.
Zero modifications, the original tyres are even still fitted!
