History

Based on the design of the earlier Brooke Kensington ME190, the Brooke Cosworth Double R was a re-engineered vehicle with no interchangeable parts with the ME190.
Similar in many ways to the better known Caterham cars, with the main exception being that the engine is behind the driver rather than in front of them.

Only 15qty Brooke Double R’s were produced, with the cars having fibreglass bodywork & a 260bhp 2.3L Cosworth/Duratec engine (much the same as the Caterham CSR 260).
However this is the ‘one of one’ Double R 400. Being the only example produced with the 400bhp Supercharged option & the £15k option of polished aluminium bodywork as opposed to the fibreglass.

An extremely rare car, with extreme performance to match.

Body & Paintwork

As can be seen from the pictures, the car has no paintwork.

This is a stunning hand crafted, aluminium body with a polished finish.
Obviously no corrosion with it being aluminium & the whole body looks fantastic.

All lights, mudguards, wheels & trims are in good order.
The lightweight nature of the car means it is easier to move around, even just by pushing it.

A truly striking car which gets a lot of attention.

Interior & Trim

Fixed seating position, but with adjustable pedal box & removable steering wheel mean getting in & out of the Brooke Double R is a piece of cake.

Tall drivers are no problem for the Brooke with the adjustable pedal box, indeed i am 6ft myself & have test driven the car without any issues.

The interior is not exactly luxurious, but that is not what it is made for.
It is made to be lightweight & bags of fun, which is certainly is!

The stack race dash faces the driver really nicely & all switchgear works as it should do.

Engine

400bhp & 510kg’s!
That is a power to weight ratio of 784bhp per tonne!! (More than a Bugatti Chiron Sport)

The power unit is a Cosworth Duratec 2.3L with a supercharger (the noise is intoxicating).
Being Cosworth you know reliability will be great, these engine’s are tried & tested.

0-60mph is claimed to be below 3 seconds & 0-100mph is claimed to be 6.5 seconds, having driven the car we can believe it.
However, do not be of the mindset that this is an outright animal to drive, with it being supercharged the power is nice & linear, with no aggressive turbo suddenly unsettling the car coming on to boost. It also means the car has nice bottom end power making it much more compliant driving around normally than what a turbo’d car might which would have little bottom end power whilst ‘off boost’.

This car is as happy being driven normally as it is being driven quickly.

Running Gear

Obviously with such performance on tap, the Brooke Double R 400 needs handling & braking to match.

Well rest assured this area has not been overlooked, with AP Racing taking care of braking.
The chassis itself is a stiff, lightweight tubular steel spaceframe. Upon release the Brooke was highly praised for its handling capabilities.

On the road the car feels fantastic & surprisingly compliant.
