Purchased new by Mr. M. Plant, from Reginald Tildesley Ltd – Walsall.
Original service booklet confirms these details, and has service stamps as per below.
Original purchase receipt is also with the vehicle, along with booklets and RS brochures from the dealership.

The car went to a RS dealer in 1985, who registered the car to themselves.
The car was bought by Mr. S. J. Cross who only used the car for a very brief period, before putting the car into storage in 1986.

It was not until the unfortunate passing of Mr. S. J. Cross in 2012, that the car was seen again, having been left to a friend in his will. The car was passed straight to Mr A. Habberley.

Since then the car has had the following works carried out:
New fuel tank
New fuel filter
New tyres (originals included – 2x worn)
New front shock absorbers (originals included but need repair)
New Cambelt kit
New water pump
All fluids flushed
New oil & filter
New fuel filter
New exhaust manifold & downpipe gaskets

In 2015 the car became part of a large collection, and this brings us up to date – and here we offer it for sale.
Recent works include filters, and a strip and rebuild of the metering head.
A new exhaust has also been fitted (replicating the original).

Body & Paintwork

As you would expect, for a car with such low mileage, the car is in great condition for its age.
The paintwork still looks good, and is largely original, with some patina – some touch ins from stonechips etc over time as you would expect from an unrestored example.

All glass is original except the windscreen which was replaced many years ago.
The RS1600i specific bodykit is in great order, and is all original Ford.

Correct original RS1600i wheels are still, along with original centre caps.
All decals are original, and all badges/lights are in good condition also.

The underside is in good condition, with lovely straight sills, and the underbody being without any repairs (nor does it require any).

Interior & Trim

The interior of this RS1600i is fantastic.
The dashboard has zero cracks, and is in simply superb order, with no warping.

Carpets are still deep, all doorcards are superb, again with zero damage.
Headlining is without fault, clock is fully working with no missing pixels.

The seats are very good, with completely solid bolsters on both front seats, and only one small mark on the drivers bolster showing.

Rear seats again, are very good, and certainly not as ‘baggy’ as many other RS1600i interiors.
Original steering wheel, and gearknob are still fitted, as is the original stereo.

The only change to the interior is a pair of period Goodman shelf speakers which have been in the car for many years.

The original engine is still fitted of course, and still has the twin coil arrangement fitted.

The car starts with first turn of the key, and idles well.
No hesitations when being driven, the car pulls as it should do through all of the gears

The car has recently had a new exhaust stainless exhaust fabricated at great expense, and also had the metering head stripped, and rebuilt.

In terms of presentation, the engine bay itself present well, especially considering this is an original ‘survivor’ rather than a restored show car.
Some patine in places as you would expect, but overall a well presented, original, unmodified example.

Running Gear

As with the rest of the car, all running gear is in good order.
Matching premium tyres are fitted, the brakes are strong and have no problem bringing you to a speedy and controlled stop.

The suspension has zero unwanted noises, and gives a great sporty ride, the handling of these cars is still fantastic all these years later – the front shock absorbers have been replaced, but originals are included with car, in need of refurbishment.

The gearbox is nice to use and selects all gears precisely, both on change up and down changes.

A great car to drive, which will take you straight back down memory lane.
